On March 27th, MIAT – Multiverse Institute for Arts & Technology proudly hosted a truly special event at the MAUTO – Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile in Turin: the official presentation of Black Cats & Chequered Flags, the first-ever immersive and interactive multiplayer Mixed Reality experience dedicated to the life and legacy of Formula 1 legend Alberto Ascari.
The event marked an important milestone, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of Ascari’s historic victory at the Gran Premio del Valentino. It was a day of immersive storytelling, technology, and shared passion, attended by an enthusiastic audience of motorsport fans, innovators, media, and cultural stakeholders.
The programme featured a dynamic panel discussion, “The Mind of a Champion,” with the participation of Patrizia Ascari, Giorgio Schön, Jonathan Giacobazzi, and motorsport experts, moderated by Carlo Vanzini (Sky Sport). Together, they revisited Ascari’s unique mindset and career, exploring what made him a true icon of speed and superstition.
Guests were also invited behind the scenes of Black Cats & Chequered Flags, discovering how immersive technologies, including Mixed Reality, Virtual Reality, Motion Capture, and 5G connectivity, were used to bring Ascari’s story back to life. Elisabetta Rotolo, CEO and founder of MIAT and Creative and executive Producer of the project, shared insights on the creative process and technological innovation behind the experience with Gianni Reteuna (WINDTRE).
The event concluded with an exclusive video screening and a Q&A session, followed by a networking moment where professionals, enthusiasts and cultural stakeholders came together to celebrate this fusion of history, immersive and emerging technologies, and immersive storytelling.
This event was part of the TrialSNet European project, supported by the European Union and in partnership with WINDTRE and MAUTO.
The story of Alberto Ascari has officially entered the future.
